Can you try a different browser? From the logs it looks like you're using IE7. I just tried with IE8, Chrome, and Firefox 3 (all on Windows) and they all worked fine. Something about the path being sent by the browser is causing the error--if we can narrow it to IE7 then I can investigate further.
The only "degradation" I've ever seen is that larger files take longer to download, which you'd expect. However, I've never done any real load or stress testing.
