I have just pushed Twig 1.0 to the Google Code servers which supports async parallel find and store. You can download it now but Im still updating some the docs.

I suspect appengine has been a victim of its own success; there seem
to be many more performance problems today than there were six months
ago. Perhaps it's time to raise the prices, change the pricing
structure, or invest in more hardware?

Async commands do not save any CPU unfortunately but do reduce the response time to that of the single slowest query.
