I implemented your code (i needed md5 anyway...): works fine on both
gaej sdk and on live gaej too. And it's normal because
java.security.MessageDigest is on the GAEJ JRE Class white list: see
http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/jrewhitelist.html)

Your issue: I would guess that your "Referenced libraries" as
initially set by the SDK have changed and are now wrong: can you list
us in details us what you have in there ?
