With Memcache one can not build a BTree, for instance.  There is
certainly a merit in Inderjeet's suggestion. If there is an API
through which we can restrict GAE to a single instance, a lot of new
applications/services can be thought of. A document database, on top
of GAE with all indexing  in-memory data structures, is one example
immediately coming to my mind.
