Google is tuning the App Engine, using the preview applications to
gain experience. That's one reason the preview is free, we can
heavily load the App Engine with a great variety of software running.
I saw my app's memcache / cached python module load time drop
dramatically during the next-to-last "scheduled maintenence", or
"tuning cycle", and then jump back up after the very last one. Looks
to me like the Google engineers tested something for a few days and
then restored the system back to its previous state.
I expect to see these, it means Google is serious about the App
Engine.
