Who knows? Bugs of this type may only show up under high traffic, so it's easy to miss if you are not aware of the issues. Is there any particular reason why distributed transactions don't have a higher priority on the GAE TODO list? >From what I understand, they can be implemented as a library without making any changes to the GAE. So maybe if you vote up this issue, the GAE team will consider writing such a library?
