I have been developing such an application at simplifyconnections.appspot.com and would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions you could give. At present, no one is really using this feature of this application so do not hesitate to experiment with it, yourself.
At the homepage type in one of the following to demo the CB system. (Only the three Interstates sampled here are actually implemented.) I85N-Atlanta I20W-Dallas-FortWorth I75S-Charlotte I85S-Atlanta My appspot was originally designed mainly for low frequency communication among local neighbors; a newly completed, two mile long, walking and biking path in my neighborhood was the main inspiration for this homepage at gae after I started by promoting carpooling and ridesharing. But upon driving the Interstates, I thought a similar system, informing Interstate rest area visitors and people starting out a journey, might be handy if it caught on widely, so that people could avoid problems by learning about options and details that would not be available via the technology of Google maps' "traffic" features. People caught in traffic jams might also benefit or be benefactors for others, if they can connect to the web from their cars. What do you think?
