Hi ofey, You can sign up to Google Apps using an existing domain - you don't have to register a new domain to do it. You're also not obliged to use any of the Apps services with your domain other than those you want to use - which could be just App Engine and nothing else. Using Google Apps is the only way to use a custom domain with an App Engine app.
