There are 2277 issues total posted over 18 months, or about 4 per day
on average. Not particularly unmanageable.
1494 (65%) are still open (unfixed), and of those, 977 (65%) are
'new' (unacknowledged).
If App Engine developers took it in turns to triage the next 10 oldest
'new' issues daily, the backlog would be cleared in about a month.

It took 2 months for [email protected] to ask for an example, which the
reporter provided promptly. No reply for 12 months.
