$0.02... I've become curious about the criteria for deployment of new instances, and if site code should try to adapt, because of the cold start overhead for every warm+new that occurs (as traffic ramps up). Having client side code guess when a 'prime the server' ping would be appropriate could lead to unnecessary cold starts (when at the edge of new instance deployment criteria).
