I don't remember the exact details of the error now, but this is a combination of what could be considered a minor bug in the app engine that was exposed by an error on my part. The problem was that I had manually edited my indexes, and uploaded an index file in which two of indexes only contained a single field, along with about 16 other new index entries. There was an error message given during the upload process that said these indexes were already built by default and should be removed from the index file. However, as this information was mixed in with other upload status, I missed the error message. Then, once inside the index viewer in the dashboard, the 16 new indexes were displaying a "building" status, without indicating that an error had occured. For this reason, I was under the impression that the index building was stuck. After clearing out the 2 problem indexes, and re-uploading the index file, the indexes were quickly built.
