I assume you are using webapp ?  Just had a quick look at webapp
Response object
and out is in fact a StringIO. So in fact all you need to do in you
deferred code is actually create a web app Response object
bind it to self out.  Then once you have finished with it, push the
string in reponse.out up to you spreadsheet,
