I really feel for you. I had a similar scare recently but fortunately the
drive was still readable and I was still able to retrieve most of my
important files which included source code for a number of different
projects.

After that happened I decided it was cheap to anti up 7 bucks a month for a
little peace of mind so I got a private account on GitHub and I use it all
the time. Before I close Eclispe I push my commits out to GitHub. For 7
bucks I can sleep well at night.
