I mentioned that we use App Engine extensively. App Engine was being used
internally at Google for quite some time before its public release, but I
also should provide a few examples. Here is a talk from Google I/O where we
detail our use of internal App Engine:

http://code.google.com/events/io/2010/sessions/run-corp-apps-on-app-engine.html

We launch a lot of new products on App Engine. Over the last holiday break,
we launched "Give Chrome":

http://www.givechrome.com/#/intro

(See the "Powered by App Engine" icon at the bottom)

The PubSubHubBub reference server (gets lots of QPS):

http://pubsubhubbub.appspot.com/

There are more sites like these, but I don't remember which ones are
publicly stamped with the "App Engine" logo. Just because we work at Google
doesn't mean we don't all have a team of sysadmins and site reliability
engineers working to keep our products up, and it makes sense to have a team
of App Engine experts making sure App Engine, and therefore, our
applications, stay up. By launching on App Engine, we enjoy many of the same
benefits you all do.

So to reiterate - no, I don't see us phasing out App Engine. I see us trying
to add features and work out reliability kinks because they affect us too!
App Engine is becoming more and more important to Google and the developer
community as a whole.
