I had a close look at the source code and found the line

#from allModels import *

It had a comment hash (#) in front.

This code wasn't updated for weeks. And probably had run correctly
since because the homepage request handler also does the import.
And usually the page with the error is reached from the homepage.

These type of import errors could be detected during development if
the dev-server can be configured, with a parameter,
to remove all loaded modules at the start or at the end of a request.
This way all requests are tested as if they
had to run on a cold instance.
