this is my first post here - Hi All, I am starting a business with a HW product that monitors and tracks various small qualities of data from our hardware once a day (2 to 3kB). I would like a to use Google Apps Engine for this due to the scalability. Lets place a target of 10,000 customers. Some of the features I need are listed below:
Collect the data sent from the HW (perhaps in a central queue even possibly via email) which then gets processed and placed into the Datastore. Allow each customer with their unique username/password to login to the website to monitor and analyze their personal data thats being recorded. Also to post the data from the hardware after being collected manually (for use in remote areas that have no Internet connection). Have a scheduled job looking at the data received from each customer that checks for when problems arise and customer equipment is not working to the fullest efficiency. When problems crop up an automated email can be sent out. This is all very straight forward and I believe fits very nicely to the Apps Engine structure. So, my first question is if we say have 20 users within our company using Google Apps and 10,000 external customers logging in for their account data / analysis, how does this break down from a costs perspective ?. Perhaps I have missed this, but I would like a clearer idea of costs for company users and customer users, or are they treated the same. The general idea for our company is to give the monitoring of HW service away for free and make the money via the HW. This is a little hard to put into a Business Plan with some actual numbers.
