There are multiple posts reporting this issue, I was also able to find a couple of reported issues that Google has closed as 'WONTFIX'. My experience is that this is a real problem. I send 20-100 e-mails and one or two will fail, here is a report that my admin user sees:

Mail to 14 Staff Members: 2010-09-13 19:48:27.693434: Message to ..., ..sent. 2010-09-13 19:48:27.730777: Message to ..., ..sent. 2010-09-13 19:48:27.766449: Message to ..., ..sent. 2010-09-13 19:48:27.808071: Message to ..., ..sent. 2010-09-13 19:48:27.844887: Message to .., ..sent. 2010-09-13 19:48:27.898182: Message to .., ...sent. 2010-09-13 19:48:27.945932: Message to .., ..sent. 2010-09-13 19:48:28.014048: Message to .., ..sent. 2010-09-13 19:48:28.049741: Message to XXXX failed (DeadlineExceededError:The API call mail.Send() took too long to respond and was cancelled.). 2010-09-13 19:48:28.082157: Message to .., ..sent. 2010-09-13 19:48:28.159780: Message to .., ..sent. 2010-09-13 19:48:28.209837: Message to .., ..sent. 2010-09-13 19:48:28.248129: Message to ...-.., ..sent. 2010-09-13 19:48:28.277980: Message to ..., ..sent As you see the mail to XXX failed but the next ones succeeded. Mails are sent/queued very fast, this has nothing to do with the 30 second limit. Next day mail to XXX succeeds and another random e-mail reports failure. I am not sure if the user received the e-mail or not, some earlier postings suggest that despite the reported failure, the user has received the e-mail. So could Google admit there is a real issue here and stop closing the reports and let me know whether there is any open bug report for this issue where I can attach my comments or should I file a new one?
