UPDATE: After deploying to a new version several time these NoClassDefFoundError disappeared. I made this the default version to serve and the application is now working. Even in the new version the cronjobs did not work for some time but are now working again.
I am wondering what caused this behaviour. The system status (http://code.google.com/status/appengine) did not show any issues. Most time there are obviously problems with the infrastructure the status is not updated.
