Yeah, that's the issue. After posting (d'oh), I discovered that there are several issues regarding transparency handling in the images API, the oldest one dating back 18 months: http://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=1729 http://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=2365 http://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=4170 http://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=1981 Does anyone know a workaround to make the images Python API handle transparent PNGs correctly, or how to make it return non-transparent images if transparency is not needed?
