This has the drawback that the user must have a Google Account in order to connect to GTalk. Unfortunately GTalk does not support e.g. SASL ANONYMOUS logins.
It would be perfect if the Channel API exposed directly its lower-level XMPP layer. Something like allowing the user to connect via XMPP as channel_id@app_id.appspotchannel.com using the channel_token as password.
