Yesterday, I decided to try out HR datastore to compare it with the Master/Slave version I've been developing for quite some time to see what the differences might be. First thing I've seen is that the number of instances is strange. On Master/Slave the instances start and stop frequently but HR instances stay alive for very long periods. Currently, with no activity Master/Slave has no instances running but HR has six instances running. There hasn't been any activity for quite a while on HR. See attached image. Anyone else seeing this behavior??? Is this normal? So, I'm curious as to what differences people who have made the switch have seen and if it is worth the extra cost especially anyone who's also used other services like Amazon. To aid the discussion I've put it in a PRO's Vs. CON's. I've indicated question marks where things have been reported anecdotally and any confirmation or rejection of said item would be appreciated. If there are items I have missed please let me know. Thanks for any input/discussion.
PROs ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. No downtime during maintenance. 2. Latency/Spikes suppossedly decreased.?? 3. Faster gets/queries.?? 4. If Google ever does support an SLA it will only be HR (Ikai's post). But that might be 2020 or later :-) CONs ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Cost: $.45/GB (seems expensive - is it worth it?) 2. Increased CPU (Testing is still early but it seems CPU cost is increased?? Is this just for puts with writing to multiple datacenters??) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google App Engine" group.
