I don't even know how to respond to this. Do you really think the level of abstraction of GAE's application hosting environment is equivalent to the level of abstraction of AWS's infrastructure hosting environment? Or are you trying to draw some comparison between AWS's similar services - SimpleDB, SQS, Elastic Beanstalk? If so, 1) you clearly haven't used them, and 2) you're back to being dependent on the commitment of another big company. I don't have any stats offhand, but I'm willing to bet there are a few orders of magnitude more people using Appengine than SimpleDB or Elastic Beanstalk. Their forums are a wasteland.
