I very much agree with this suggestion. I've put the heavy lifting on backends, and frontends merely serve simple requests now with only about 10MB memory usage, but would still be charged the same amount as instances using 128MB. Maybe Google could provide mini-instances, which have a hard limit of 32MB and less CPU but are only charged 0.5 instance hours per hour.
