Just for the record, the i5 in my computer is running at 5.2Ghz on 2 Cores,
and 1.3Ghz on 2 cores. This is great for things that only use 2 threads the
OS runs on a 1.3ghz CPU, background tasks run on a 1.3, and my video editing
software runs on the 2 5.2ghz cores.

I realize this isn't what Google is doing, but you can in fact set up i5 and
i7s to run this way and 4.8 is a pretty common overclock for these CPUs. I
think more and more with dynamic clocking and Cheap CPUs we will see
computers cycles billed more often as CPU hours at X clock speed for Manage
hosting where the cost at this point is in HVAC and power, more than
computational units.

In a server environment typically the cost of the hard drive is less than
the power needed to spin it and cool it. Especially in a world of 1.5 TB
drives at $70. (I just bought 300gig drives for $15 each quantity 8)

Subject: Re: [google-appengine] Where did Google buy 4.8GHz CPUs?

They're not 4.8GHz. It's more like 2 x 2.4GHz which can only be utilised
(currently) by using the Java runtime of GAE, as stated by Greg Darke here:

Or is this just against some sort of Pentium = 100 reference value?
