I did'nt want to comment in the FAQ thread as I didnt have much to ask other than rant.
Overall I am quite disappointed with the developments. As a python dev, here are few things - The good - * The ride till this point was just awsome. Thanks Google. * Good that GAE is moving out of preview * Good that GAE is getting Enterprise clients. Things I am unhappy about - * The new pricing is quite punishing for python app owners * People dont mind paying more if it makes sense. Right now it doesnt (at least for python devs) * The people who took the decision could (should) have thought about this technical aspect. I would be surprised if they didnt think of it earlier and saddened if they thought about it and still made the decision. * The transition from free to payed is not smooth as before. You have a $9 bump. - I dont mind paying more, but scaling should be available for all. And a smooth transition from free to paid part would have been better. Few things that come to my mind - I would have really liked an option of free apps consuming more and ability to pay for usage. Excluding these out of scaling is nonsense. Or how about enabling billing for free apps and if an app consistently consumes $9+ resources (for maybe 2-3cycles), bump it automatically to the next category. Paypal has this method for calculating commission, It automatically moves the account up/down based on earnings. At the present situation, python based apps have to pay a premium for being on GAE. Based on usage, there might be cost effective alternatives from now on. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google App Engine" group.
