Google Overlords, Back when you announced the new pricing, I asked whether you might make some accommodation for public-good applications. You responded that this was a good idea and you'd get back to me on a plan. No word yet.
I now have some real numbers, and it looks like my app is going to cost me an average of $0.58 a day, which means just over $200 a year. I doubt I can optimize this away. The bulk of usage is coming from computers that periodically check in to update the list of open meetings for displays in town Kiosks and on public access TV. The fact that I'm getting pinged periodically means there is constant need for an instance to exist, burning up the 24 hours of baseline free usage. When someone connects to the system to post a meeting or browse, that tends to spin up another instance, which is what costs the money. $200/year isn't terrible. My app is serving several towns in MA now, and I suspect they won't object to covering this cost. But I'm certainly going to renew my request that you consider creating a program to waive the fees for GAE apps that you find are very-not-evil. I'm happy to put all the google rah-rah you want onto my app in exchange! -Joshua www.mytowngovernment.org -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google App Engine" group.
