I agree. This new pricing is pushing small sites in the wrong direction. For a small site like mine, GAE has moved from a big help to a big hindrance. A $6.95 per month hosting plan on a typical webhost would be overkill for me. But with the new pricing, I'm looking at $15-20 per month for GAE.
This instance pricing for small sites hasn't been thought through by Google.
