Hi Tapir, I do agree it is really frustrating. Did you create an issue? If not, I would suggest you create one to have someone from the GAE team looking at this.
I did create one last Monday (http://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/ issues/detail?id=5876), but didn't get any feedback. Just that it was labeled as Component-Mail. Looks like this is relevant enough to attrack the GAE team attention.
