You really need to fix the slow cold starts of GAE apps. It can take 10 seconds to load a webpage that usually loads in a fraction of a second. See issue: http://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=7833 This seems to me something suitable for the Google Page Speed team to look into. The slow page load problem has come and gone for years for GAE.
