I don't have a strong understanding of the technology behind SNI/VIP, but I am confused why it costs $120/$1200 per year to enable HTTPS on a custom domain. Are there significant infrastructure costs Google has to make to support this? Does it have to buy IPv4 address space?
http://www.imperialviolet.org/2010/06/25/overclocking-ssl.html claims that the cost isn't in the CPU or network: "On our production frontend machines, SSL/TLS accounts for less than 1% of the CPU load, less than 10KB of memory per connection and less than 2% of network overhead." Why do SSL slots only come in packs of 5? Thanks -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google App Engine" group.
