IMO it takes to much time between failures being reported here or on issue tracker and an official warning message on downtime-notify group.
It is bad when we're getting reports from users and don't already know if this is widespread issue that google is working on, or just our app being faulty. We should know beforehand that maybe we should take a look, monitor our app closely, and prepare for user complaints. I'd rather put a "we're sorry, server is down, come back later" static page on the site, than have users struggle with every other request. Regards.
