I did some experiments this weekend with backends and found that they were restarted mostly between 10 and some times up to 30 minutes. My experiments happened many time within a 24 hour window. There was no memory leaks or any other error I could notice. I have concluded that the system was just aggressively load balancing but maybe I am wrong.
What has been the experience of others who use backends? Does Google have any data along the lines stated in the docs: "The App Engine team will provide more guidance on expected backend uptime as statistics become available." Backends loose a lot of appeal for some of my use cases if they are forced to restart that often.
