Hey Everyone,

First of all - we feel your pain about needing to set up a Google Apps
account for App Engine. You shouldn't need to sign up two services just to
associate a domain name with your project. We're actively working on fixing
this. In the meantime, I would encourage anyone affected by this to star
the issue mentioned above, as Jason suggests.

Second of all - just to reiterate what some in this thread have already
pointed out - we are no longer able to provide free Google Apps accounts
for Google App Engine users.

Instead we are offering a USD 50 credit for App Engine applications that
need to create a Google Apps for Business account in order to associate
their application with a custom domain to help offset the cost of setting
up a Google Apps for Business account. The full details and terms for this
credit, as well as instructions on how to apply, are here -
http://goo.gl/akrPB.

If you're eligible, just complete the form and we'll apply the credit
within 14 days and send you an e-mail once it's done. We've also set up
[email protected] to handle any questions about
the credit.

Finally - this only affects new domains registered through Google Apps.
Existing Google Apps Standard accounts will continue to work.

James, thanks for pointing out the mistake in the documentation - I'll ask
our docs guys to correct it ASAP. In the meantime, the process for
associating a custom domain with Google Apps is described correctly here -
https://developers.google.com/appengine/docs/domain.

Thanks, and again we hope to have a much better answer to this problem for
you all soon.
