I ran into the same issue. Now I am confused. On Google developers site I wrote that it would be possible to send messages from the app engine to theAndroid devices by deploying a XMPP client on GAE. It was just said that messaging from devices to GAE via XMPP would be prevented due to the GAE restrictions.
So is it that the suggested Smack is just using unnecessary features which conflicts with GAE restrictions, or is it not possible at all to deploy a XMPP client on GAE?
