Update: the problem occurs only when deploying from a Mac (Mac OS 10.7.5). 
All is well when I deploy from a Windows machine (except for the minor 
glitch that at the end of deployment, my default browser comes up trying to 
connect to 42.myapp... instead of 42-dot-myapp...
