I was also concerned that CloudFlare was slowing things down, similar to your concern, so I built a system to measure the overhead, it was something like ~50ms which was pretty impressive
You should probably build a bare handler, with no routines, and measure the request times (from javascript for example) with and without ssl, I'm sure the delay will be low By the way, is there an update in SSL integration of AppEngine?
