As far as I know, the local development server doesn't support https/SSL. 
 So it's fairly understandable that you'd see differences between the dev 
server and a deployed server if you're communicating over SSL.  It's hard 
to say exactly what's going wrong here, but I would start from scratch and 
make sure you've configured SSL the way you intended.
