google research publications. Notably, things in the Distributed Systems 
and Parallel Computing

section. Of particular note are the borg, bigtable, megastore, spanner, and 
paxos papers. 

You can also check out AppScale <http://www.appscale.com/>, which is an 
open-source reimplementation of GAE.
