Honestly, someone with “very little technical knowledge” should not attempt to work with SSL certificates.
HTTPS is about setting up a secure website and letting the people who use that website know that you are doing things correctly to protect them. You should find someone who understands SSL (and web security in general) to take care of this for you. Think of it like trying to repair the airbag on your car by yourself.
