I am having the same issue for deploying new version of my nodejs app on *GAE .* Things went smooth upto 25th version of the app but while deploying the next version it keep showing updating service status for past 1 hour.
Since i read only 20 versions are allowed on free app, thus I deleted all other previous versions other than the current version(because it's necessary). But still i am not able to update my app .
