In case you have not seen this, here is a document describing how
Google SSO works:

Basically, Google SSO is based on SAML 2.0.  We will delegate
authentication to your system (i.e. students/faculties will use your
school's username/password) for all web-based services.  However,
users will still need to use their Google password for client-based
services like IMAP, Google Chat, etc.
