I can tell you that v2 is the stable version and v3 is still in labs but I'm
not aware of plans to deprecate v2 in the near future.
What I know we plan to deprecate is the direct upload method and only allow
resumable upload instead. The documentation reads "It should be noted that
we plan to deprecate this mechanism in the near future in favor of the
recommended resumable upload mechanism".

However, I'm not the expert on this API and I'd still recommend using the
specific forum where members of the Docs team participate in the discussion.
