I am looking to use Google Base as a database for my web service. The
data I have is simple (5 columns of a database table) but voluminous
(about 5 million rows, and growing).

Questions:

(1) Can I do this? Is it efficient? If GBase is only accessible as XML
feeds and all this new-age mumbo jumbo, it's good for pulling a few
items at one time, but not for a serious application. Is this
understanding correct? The server I have is dedicated but making
requests for XML doesn't sound terribly fast to me.

(2) Where can I find the terms/conditions of how much data I can store
on Google Base? There is no maximum mentioned here:
http://base.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=62594 ,
although I do note this:

"You acknowledge that Google has set no fixed upper limit on the
number of transmissions you may send or receive through Google
services or the amount of storage space used; however, we retain the
right, at our sole discretion, to create limits at any time with or
without notice."

-- Does this mean that if Google decides that I am storing too much
data, then it can pull the plug...in that event will I be given a
chance to at least backup my data to local servers?

Thanks for any advice.
