No, you don't have to use Java.  You can do this through a language
or environment of your choice.  Here's a sample request through
curl:
curl -i  -H 'Authorization: AuthSub token="CIKblah"' -H
"Content-Type: application/atom+xml" -X GET
http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/default/private/full
