One of the API features that will need to come with the ability to create a Calendar via the API is a programmatic pathway to specify the sharing mode of that calendar and create sharing entries for individual users. This will be especially important in the GAFYD and Social Networking scenarios as businesses and groups will need some administrative capabilities to handle adding calendars for new users and configuring sharing of that calendar out and domain calendars in.
Note that in GAFYD if you share your calendar at the calendar level it is shared globally and is not constrained to members of your domain. High Level Scenarios Company hires Bob, admin creates calendar for Bob and shares it as F/B with the company and RO with Bobs workgroup. Admin then adds Bob as a RO entry in the Corporate and Department calendar and RW in the workgroup calendar. Similar workflows for Bob moves workgroup or department, Bob leaves the company.
