To replicate this is simple.
Suppose you have two Google accounts - Account 1 and 2.
1. Create a Recurring event in Google calendar account 1 and add a guest
(Account 2) to it. Event will be displayed in Account 2 - No problem till here.
2. Try updating the Account 2 event through Google calendar API. It will
through an exception : com.google.calendar.server.CalendarPermissionException:
participant overrides not available on recurring events.
Note that i tried to update the "Main" Recurring series and not any of the
exceptions. Exceptions are getting happily updated and not the Parent event
series.
Any ideas why ?

com.google.calendar.server.CalendarPermissionException: participant overrides
not available on recurring events.
Thanks
