Most of the issues you are describing are independent of the language you
are using (.NET, Java etc) and i leave it up the the calendar experts to
explain that.

The extraParameters string is used to add parameters that are not exposed
otherwise (like if a service adds a new parameter, and we have not come
around to add this to the .NET library yet). The .NET library will take care
of inserting a ? or a & pending other parameters, so you would just specify
"para=value", or if you have more than one "paraOne=value&paraTwo=Whatever"
....
