Good response.

Further investigation reveals multiple posts that explain that Google 
randomly fails to parse recurrence rules and the solution is to just 
retry the request (as many times as needed?) and it will work (in some 
cases - as Google still doesn't seem to have the recurrence support 
required to integrate fully with Outlook).

I think Ryan B explained this a long time ago and I somehow missed it or 
perhaps just couldn't wrap my head around the fact that a service from 
Google would randomly fail and the expected way to handle that is to 
just retry. I'm changing my code now to retry in these cases.
