Probably the easiest thing to do is create a separate account for the
community ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) in addition to each user's
individual calendar. Think of Community Group as distinct entity that
has it's own schedule.

Have each group member subscribe to Community Group's calendar. This
will allow them to see what the group is up to, and receive event
reminders and notifications.
Have Community Group subscribe to each member's calendar. This should
(I think) allow Community Group to search through all members'
calendars (though it's not clear to me why you'd want to do that).
Group members who are so inclined can also subscribe to each other's
calendars.

Have Community Group give calendar management privileges to a select
set of group admins. The admins can schedule events on Community
Group's calendar from their own accounts, and send invitations to
other group members via a mailing list.
If you want non-admin members able to schedule events (rather than
write to an admin to ask that something be posted), set Community
Group's calendar to automatically accept and post invitations.
