The following code part does list one event to the screen:

echo "<ul>";
foreach ($eventFeed as $event) {
    echo "<li>" . $event->title . " (Event ID: " . $event->id . ")</
li>";

So my $eventFeed contains one event.
I can even retrieve its id using $event->id, but I can't delete it
using any method.

Do I have to have some special settings in my calendar to allow
deletion?
What does the 500 response code mean? A google search on it will say
it means an error on Google's side. Is that true?
